Brrrrrrrrrr! It's been cold here; a few days ago it was hovering in the single digits. It's back up to 30 degrees now, but there's more snow coming down. With the snow already on the ground, we'll probably wake up to 7 or 8 inches of snow tomorrow morning. It'll make for a white-knuckle, icy drive down the hill to preschool and campus.
Is it any wonder, then, that a pair of these Timberland boots, which arrived in the mail yesterday, are among my new favorite things?
I adore them.
They're a lot more practical than the peep-toe stilettos I saw a woman wearing today on campus when it was snowing and about 25 degrees. And they keep my legs warm, unlike the leggings I keep seeing women students wear without pants or skirts. This look, I might point out, is much appreciated by some of the 50- through 70-something men on campus; I've seen them turn around or cock their heads to leer at undergraduate ass on half a dozen occasions since it became cold and the leggings made their debut.
And so, a couple of public service messages for the local undergrads:
Again: Idaho, you're welcome.

Please tell me that when we were undergrads we didn't dress that poorly.
awesome boots indeed!
well, I like leggings (and I'm really short & skinny, so it doesn't look bad, I promise ;-) though I only wear them with dresses or tunics (mid- to lower thigh length). I have NOT worn leggings since it got cold here, though, I would be really cold. So, I'm not guilty of what you're talking about (and, hopefully the dresses over it will avoid the phenomenon you describe -- though my cute Brazilian behind is my only endowment! ;-)
I hope this comment was entertaining! and...
happy winter, my friend, it will probably be a long, cold one, right?
Arbitrista, I think when we were undergrads we may have gone in the completely opposite direction. I remember oversized t-shirts and sweatshirts and baggy jeans. :)
Lilian, I'm not against leggings in general--just when they're worn as pants without anything covering them.
And yes, it's going to be a looooong winter, particularly if I have to deal with the eyestrain I'll get from rolling my eyes whenever I see naked leggings and leering senior profs.
AGREED! It is amazing the sort of shoes and not-pants that are about. Also, my boot envy is pinging - darn these calves.
You are cracking me up. I saw an undergrad wearing high-heeled boots with open toes a few weeks back. Also I caught myself leering at an undergrad wearing leggings because the way the light was hitting her, they were somewhat translucent/transparent. I was so shocked I couldn't help but stare.
I bought riding boots that look very similar to yours from widewidths.com. I wear them all the time now. I may have to buy a second pair of boots so that I don't wear them out.
I have the same boots! So now I shall think of you whenever I wear them!
(Only they are MY "look! sometimes I dress like a grown-up!" boots, not my warm winter boots. Because I'm still cold in those boots!)
Hmmm... I seem to recall you telling me you'd enjoy watching ME deal with the winter weather! Ah.... sorry to be happy to have someone share my pain. :) Although, it hasn't really snowed here yet. It's raining buckets and the wind is blowing a gale today, but it's also almost 60! I'm sure we'll get our share soon.
Stay warm! Great boots :)
Yes- tights do not equal pants! A lot of our students seem confused about this concept as well. Do yours wear them with Uggs, too?
Those boots are very nice! My winter boots are not nearly so fashionable, but I've never fallen in the ice or snow with them on, so I don't worry about the fashion. Living in the cold climate has taken a lot of trial and error. Good luck to you!
